Granada, Sevilla play out draw in La Liga clash

Granada and Sevilla play out a 1-1 draw in their La Liga clash as Diego Mainz scores for both teams at the Estadio Nuevo Los Carmenes.

Diego Mainz scored at both ends of the pitch as the La Liga clash between Granada and Sevilla ended in a 1-1 draw.

The home side took the lead in the 15th minute when Mainz rose highest at the back post to power a header from a corner into the back of the net, beating the outstretched hand of Rico.

Granada could have doubled their advantage when Robert Ibanez collected a pass from Allan Nyom inside the the box, but his strike at goal flashed just past the post.

Diogo Figueiras almost put the ball into the back of his own net as he tried to clear it in front of his own goal. Fortunately for the Sevilla defender, the ball smashed off the outside of the post.

Mainz continued his excellent start to the game as he made a vital block to deny a header from Carlos Bacca from finding the net after the forward had latched on to a dangerous cross from Denis Suarez.

Bacca threatened again moments later when he was played through on goal by Nicolas Pareja, but his strike went inches past the post.

In the second half, Rico made an excellent save to keep his side in the game as Daniel Candeias broke through the middle, but the keeper got down well to keep his goalbound strike out of the net.

Sevilla got back into the game when Aleix Vidal broke down the right and hit a low ball across the face of goal, where Mainz was powerless in diverting the ball past Roberto and into his own net.

The visitors had a golden chance to win the match in the dying seconds when Jose Antonio Reyes lifted the ball to the back post for the run of Ever Banega, but the midfielder could only put his close-range effort wide of the target, forcing his team to settle for a point.
