Germany first Euro team to win WC on South American soil

Germany have become the first European team to win the World Cup on South American soil following a 1-0 victory over Argentina in the final this evening.

Mario Gotze scored the only goal of the match deep into extra time, as Argentina were made to regret a series of missed opportunities throughout the 120 minutes.

It is the first time since 1990 that Germany have won the tournament.

Meanwhile, the success is their fourth in World Cup competition.
