Miroslav Klose breaks Germany scoring record

Klose breaks Germany scoring record

Miroslav Klose has become Germany's all-time leading goalscorer by netting his 69th international goal in their World Cup warm-up game against Armenia tonight.

The experienced striker scored Germany's fourth in Mainz to pass Gerd Mueller's tally of 68 strikes, which has stood since his retirement in 1974.

Klose, 35, has made 132 appearances for his country since making his debut, in which he scored the winner in a 2-1 victory over Albania in 2001.

The Lazio forward needs one goal at this summer's tournament in Brazil to equal another landmark, being the top scorer in the history of World Cups, a title which is currently held by Brazil's Ronaldo at 15.

It was not all good news for Joachim Low's side at the Coface Arena, though, with Borussia Dortmund midfielder Marco Reus limping off during the first half with what appeared to be an ankle injury.
