Galatasaray manager Fatih Terim believes that his team are capable of further improvement after qualifying for the Champions League knockout stages for the first time in 11 years.

Galatasaray manager Fatih Terim believes that qualifying for the Champions League knockout stages may prove the catalyst for sustained improvement at the club.

The Turkish giants made it into the last 16 on Wednesday with a hard-fought victory over Braga.

Terim's side trailed at the break but fought back to win 2-1 and edge Cluj by the slimmest of margins for the final qualification place.

Despite amassing 10 points in Group H, the veteran coach believes that his side are capable of playing far better and rising to the occasion when the tournament resumes in February.

He told reporters: "I'm very pleased that we completed the job on our own instead of waiting for help elsewhere.

"Earlier I said 'we haven't had our final word, there's more to come'. You see, Galatasaray still have plenty to say in Europe. It is a long road, but we'll try anyway. If we encounter a hitch, we'll try again. With the help of our fans, we can do this.

"With the prayers and positive energy of our fans, we created a thing of beauty. Some games make a team a real team. Some matches unite our communities, even whole countries."

The reigning Super Lig holders qualified for the latter stages of Europe's premier club competition for the first time in 11 years.
