Latest transfer news and rumours: Muniz Fulham contract extension, Boniface to AC Milan, Godfrey, Tanganga to Sheffield United

Muniz contract extension, Boniface to Milan: Latest transfer news and rumours

Fulham are reportedly preparing to offer Rodrigo Muniz new contract terms after rejecting an offer for the striker from Atalanta BC.

The 24-year-old had been targeted by Atalanta to replace last season’s Serie A top scorer Marco Retegui, who has become the most expensive Italian player after being sold to Al Qadsiah for a reported €65m last month.

Atalanta failed with a £34.5m bid to sign Muniz earlier this month and it is now understood that the Italian outfit have ended their pursuit of the Fulham striker.

According to the Evening Standard, Marco Silva’s side are looking to enter contract negotiations with Muniz immediately after the transfer window closes on September 1.

Muniz, who scored a 96th-minute equaliser in last weekend’s 1-1 draw away to Brighton & Hove Albion in the Premier League, has less than 12 months remaining on his existing deal at Craven Cottage

Fulham have no interest in selling Muniz, who has spent the last four years at the club and scored 11 goals across all competitions as Silva’s side notched up a club-record points tally in the Premier League last season.

Boniface closing in on Milan transfer from Leverkusen

One striker who could be heading to Serie A is Victor Boniface as AC Milan reportedly have a club-to-club agreement with Bayer Leverkusen to sign the 24-year-old.

Journalist Fabrizio Romano claims that Boniface’s agent is on his way to Italy today (Thursday) for talks with Milan to finalise an initial loan agreement with a €30m option-to-buy clause.

A separate report from Sky Deutschland reporter Florian Plettenberg claims that the ‘last details’ between Boniface and Milan need to be clarified and the deal will go through when the player gives the final green light to the transfer.

It is thought that Milan’s decision to move for Boniface is likely to end Rasmus Hojlund’s chances of joining the Serie A giants on loan from Manchester United.

The potential arrival of Boniface at San Siro is also set to result in the departure of Santiago Gimenez, who only joined the Rossoneri from Feyenoord in February and has been put up for sale with less than two weeks of the transfer window remaining, according to Fichajes.

Nigeria international Boniface, who was strongly linked with a switch to Saudi Arabia earlier this summer, has scored 32 goals in 61 appearances for Leverkusen, including 11 strikes in 27 games during an injury-hit 2024-25 campaign.

Sheffield United plotting double defensive deal before deadline

Elsewhere, Sheffield United are hoping to sign two defenders before the September 1 deadline, including former Norwich City and Everton man Ben Godfrey.

Sky Sports News claims that Godfrey is set to return to the UK to join the Blades on loan from Atalanta and will fly to England this evening ahead of undergoing a medical and finalising his move to the Championship side, who will have an option to buy next summer.

Godfrey, 27, is looking to reignite his career after failing to make an impact in Italy with Atalanta, making just five appearances since signing for the club last summer for £11m, before being loaned out to Ipswich Town for the second half of last season.

Ruben Selles’s side are also said to have stepped up their pursuit of Millwall defender Japhet Tanganga, with Sky Sports News claiming that the Blades look like the frontrunners for his signature.

Tanganga has been the subject of much interest this summer, with Millwall believed to have already rejected offers from Serie A duo Sassuolo and Hellas Verona.

The 26-year old former Tottenham Hotspur defender is said to have a £1.5m release clause in his Millwall contract, but that only applies to clubs in the Premier League.
