Rene Meulensteen happy with "important" point

Fulham manager Rene Meulensteen believes that this afternoon's 2-2 draw with Manchester United could prove to be an "important" point for his struggling side.

Fulham manager Rene Meulensteen has hailed his side's defensive performance during this afternoon's 2-2 draw with Manchester United at Old Trafford.

United enjoyed 75% possession and dominated large periods of the match, but were forced to come from a goal down before conceding an equaliser deep into stoppage time of the second half.

"We made it difficult for them. United have got some problems of their own. They kept creating chances and crosses but we defended well and held them," Meulensteen told Sky Sports News.

"We thought at the end it's going to slip away, all of the hard work that we've done but at the end to score that it felt like a winner. It was definitely intentional to stay deep. When you are in a situation like this you know confidence is not the highest and something down the line has to give.

"We focused on keeping our shape and we defended well. The important thing is we got a point. Some people classified us as dead and buried."

Despite the draw, Fulham remain bottom of the Premier League table, although they are now just four points from safety.
