Brede Hangeland: "Every match a cup final"

Fulham's Brede Hangeland says that he and his teammates will treat every remaining Premier League game as a cup final.

Fulham captain Brede Hangeland has urged his teammates and the fans to treat every one of the club's nine remaining Premier League games as cup finals as they bid to beat the odds and stay in the top flight.

Hangeland admitted that the pressure is definitely on after the team's awful form so far, and said that the key thing is to strike the right balance between attacking and defending.

"Every match is really a cup final for us given the situation we're in," he told the club's official website. "We're desperate for points as you can see in the league table and this is a home match we need to win.

"We've put ourselves in a very difficult situation. The pressure is definitely on and we have to try to deal with that and do everything we can to win the match.

"You can't go gung-ho and have every player attacking because this is the Premier League and the opposition can score goals. The balance between defending and attacking needs to be right and we know we have to go on a good run if we want to play in the Premier League next season."

Even a win against Newcastle United on Saturday would not be enough to lift Fulham off the bottom of the table.
