Former Newcastle United boss John Carver 'applies for Fulham job'

Former Newcastle United head coach John Carver applies for the vacant manager's role at Championship side Fulham, according to a report.

Former Newcastle United head coach John Carver has reportedly applied for the vacant manager's role at Fulham.

The Championship side are looking for a new boss after sacking Kit Symons, who had been in charge at Craven Cottage for 14 months.

Carver is out of work after leaving Newcastle in the summer. The 50-year-old was in charge of the Magpies for six months after Alan Pardew left for Crystal Palace in January, going on to keep them in the Premier League with a win over West Ham United on the final day of last season.

According to Here is the City, Carver is eager to get his coaching career going again and has contacted Fulham about becoming their next manager.

Hull City manager Steve Bruce, former Leicester City boss Nigel Pearson and Burton Albion boss Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink have been linked with taking charge of the Championship outfit since Symons's sacking.

Carver has also coached at Leeds United, Sheffield United and Plymouth Argyle during his career.
