Clint Dempsey left of United States squad to play Mexico

Dempsey left out of US squad

Clint Dempsey has been left out of the United States squad for Wednesday's friendly against Mexico by manager Jurgen Klinsmann.

The 22-man US squad only included seven players based in Europe, with Everton goalkeeper Tim Howard selected.

Fulham midfielder Dempsey's future has been the subject of intense speculation this summer, with persistent rumours of a move to Liverpool.

The 29-year-old enjoyed an impressive 2011-12 season in west London, scoring 17 Premier League goals for the Cottagers.
