Marco Silva confirms Harry Wilson injury blow as Fulham boss reveals transfer plans

Silva confirms major injury blow as Fulham boss reveals transfer plans

Fulham boss Marco Silva has revealed that Harry Wilson is set to miss up to "10 weeks" of action due to a foot injury.

The Cottagers are currently preparing for Saturday's tricky meeting against Newcastle United at St James' Park.

However, they will travel to the North East without Wilson's services after the attacker picked up an injury in Sunday's 1-0 home defeat against Manchester United.

The Wales international made his fifth consecutive league start the narrow loss, before his evening was cut short in the opening stages of the second period.

Silva reveals extent of Wilson injury

Speaking ahead of Saturday's meeting with Newcastle, Silva revealed that Wilson will have to undergo surgery on a stress fracture, which will keep him out of action for a considerable period.

"It's tough news for us about Harry," Silva told reporters. "He's going to have surgery soon, he has a stress fracture in his fifth metatarsal.

"He's going to be out for between eight and ten weeks, probably more. Let's hope now the surgery can go well and he can start his recovery to get him to his best level."

Wilson is now for a significant spell in the treatment room alongside Kenny Tete, who sustained a knee injury in December's draw with Liverpool

Silva opens up on transfer plans

With Tete and Wilson likely to be out until April, Silva has revealed that he wants to sign replacements before the transfer window shuts on Monday.

"We are trying to get a right-back and we are looking for a player in Wilson's position too," Silva said. "Time is not on our side, but let's see what we can do."

The Fulham boss also revealed that Reiss Nelson remains unavailable for selection, although he is making progress in his injury recovery.

Nelson, an Arsenal loanee, has missed the last 10 matches after picking up a hamstring problem in December's 3-1 win over Brighton & Hove Albion.

The Cottagers will head into Saturday's meeting with Newcastle in 10th position after collecting 33 points from their 23 Premier League matches.
