Freiburg edge out Hannover

Freiburg beat Hannover 2-1 in the Bundesliga.

Freiburg have beaten Hannover 2-1 in the Bundesliga courtesy of two first-half goals from Admir Mehmedi.

It was the visiting side who started stronger, as Mame Biram Diouf's header from an Edgar Prib cross was tipped over the bar in the 10th minute.

The hosts started to come into the game but were struggling to create genuine chances. Vladimir Darida had a snap-shot from distance well blocked.

Gelson Fernandes had a big say in the opening goal. He was a huge part of the Freiburg counter-attack that set up Mehmedi for a sliding finish.

Jonathan Schmid was becoming a creative influence and he threaded the ball in to Mehmedi, who finished well from inside the box to put the hosts two ahead by the break.

As Hannover pressed for an equaliser in the second half, Leonardo Bittencourt was looking the most likely but despite scoring a late consolation he could not get his side back into it as they fell to defeat.
