Augsburg score three to knock out Freiburg

Augsburg manage a 3-0 win away from home against current 2. Bundesliga table toppers Freiburg in the DFB-Pokal.

Augsburg notched up three goals against Freiburg as they beat the 2. Bundesliga side 3-0 in the DFB-Pokal this evening.

Ji Dong-won opened the scoring 11 minutes in after a mistake in the Freiburg midfield released the South Korean in behind, and the former Sunderland man beat the goalkeeper at his near post.

Mike Frantz almost had an instant leveller for the home side after his header hit the bar from close range.

However, Augsburg would make it two soon after as Alexander Esswein took aim from outside the box and curled the ball beyond the grasp of Patric Klandt.

Augsburg increased their lead in the second half through Caiuby, who had a simple finish after Tim Matavz skipped through the Freiburg defence to lay it on a plate for the Brazilian.

The final goal killed off the game as Augsburg retained control for the remainder.
