Deschamps: 'We need to prove ourselves'

France manager Didier Deschamps has said that he is desperate for the country to achieve success in the World Cup this summer.

The 45-year-old captained Les Bleus to victory in the 1998 World Cup and Euro 2000 and has admitted that it has been too long since they impressed at a major tournament.

"The last good result achieved by a French national team was [reaching] the final in 2006. That's eight years ago – that's quite a while now," Deschamps told UEFA.com.

"Generations are changing, young players are coming in with a lot of skill. We will need to prove ourselves at the World Cup this summer."

France have been drawn in Group E alongside Switzerland, Honduras and Ecuador for this summer's finals in Brazil.
