Steven Pressley hoping for Fleetwood Town response

Steven Pressley admits that Fleetwood Town wasted a big chance to build some momentum when losing to rivals Blackpool, but is confident that they can quickly respond.

Fleetwood Town boss Steven Pressley has challenged his players to use last weekend's derby defeat to Blackpool to spur them on in the Football League Trophy.

The Cod Army were downed 1-0 by rivals Blackpool last time out to remain in trouble at the wrong end of the League One table.

Pressley now wants put the disappointment to one side in the hope of inspiring a prolonged cup run for Town, who play host to Morecambe at Highbury next Tuesday.

"The one thing we've got to ensure is Saturday doesn't affect the confidence," he is quoted as saying by the Blackpool Gazette. "I see a growing confidence, but we have to use the disappointment as a motivation.

"I've heard people say a derby game is just three points. It's not, it's more than that. They mean so much to supporters, they can build momentum, a feel good factor. Saturday was an opportunity for us to do that and end a fantastic week with maximum points."

Fleetwood, who have won three games in succession on home soil, find themselves two points above the drop zone following last weekend's setback.
