Rangers progress in Scottish Cup

Late goals from Nicky Law and David Templeton prove enough for Rangers to beat 10-man Falkirk and reach the fifth round of the Scottish Cup.

Rangers have qualified for the fifth round of the Scottish Cup with a 2-0 away win against Falkirk.

The visitors were in control in the early stages of the contest as the hosts' goalkeeper Michael McGovern kept out a good cross from Lee Wallace from the left flank.

Moments later, though, Rangers captain Lee McCulloch turned away Rory Loy's attempt as the game began to open up.

A Wallace cross caused problems inside the Falkirk penalty area, before Philip Roberts fired wide from a good position.

McCulloch headed home from a corner for Rangers and minutes later Jon Daly saw his looping header claimed easily by McGovern.

Then just past the half-hour mark Wallace went close for the Glasgow giants when he shot on goal, but McGovern made a very good save.

Rangers were given a great chance to take the lead after the break when Falkirk defender David McCraken was sent off for bringing down Nicky Clark inside the area.

However, McCulloch saw his spot kick saved by McGovern and Law's subsequent goal from the rebound was chalked off because of offside.

Fraser Aird was unlucky to be denied a goal by the frame of the Falkirk goal when his shot came back off the crossbar.

However, there was no denying Law in the 89th minute of the contest when he shot home through a host of bodies after latching on to a knock-down from Bilel Mohsni.

Then in injury time Lewis MacLeod sent David Templeton through on goal to slam home to wrap up the win for Rangers.
