Chesterfield win at Exeter City to go top of League Two

Chesterfield climb back to the top of League Two with a 2-0 win at Exeter City, which came courtesy of goals from Ollie Banks and Marc Richards.

Second-half goals from Ollie Banks and Marc Richards earned Chesterfield a 2-0 away win at Exeter City that took them back to the top of League Two.

Banks scored the first shortly after the interval and then set up Richards to make the points safe 20 minutes from time.

The journeyman striker could have opened the scoring as early as the 10th minute when he raced onto a ball over the top and struck low, only for Exeter keeper Artur Krysiak to save well.

David Wheeler had perhaps the hosts' best two chances of the opening half, but fired wide from an angle and then headed over the crossbar from Matt Gill's delivery.

After play resumed, midfielder Banks wasted little time in putting the Spireites in front, celebrating being named the Football League's Young Player of the Month earlier this week by heading in Callum McFadzean's 47th-minute corner.

Banks then turned provider to assist Richards, who had nodded straight at Krysiak moments earlier, with a smart pass that allowed the 31-year-old to stroke home from 12 yards and secure his side a division-high 11th win of the campaign.
