Roberto Martinez: 'We can't blame the ref, we must focus on our game'

Everton manager Roberto Martinez insists that his players cannot blame referees when decisions do not go their way, but instead focus on improving their game.

Everton manager Roberto Martinez has insisted that his players must not rely on refereeing decisions and instead focus on their game.

The Merseyside outfit have been on the end of some contentious decisions of late, which have contributed to defeats to Tottenham Hotspur and Chelsea.

"Referees' decisions are part of the game," the Liverpool Echo quotes Martinez as saying. "Some go for you, some go against. The ideal is to be so superior that you don't rely on a referee's decision to get a result. That's when you're really in a good position, so we're going to concentrate on that.

"I'd rather do that than say we lost because of a referee. I'd rather focus on our potential. Maybe this period of having certain injuries in certain positions has pushed us hard, to our maximum, but I think we'll get the rewards from that."

The Toffees are currently seventh in the Premier League table.
