Koeman: 'Chelsea too strong for Everton'

Everton manager Ronald Koeman has admitted that Chelsea were "far too strong" for his side during this evening's Premier League clash at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea climbed to the top of the table courtesy of a rampant 5-0 win over the Toffees, making it five wins on the bounce without conceding a goal.

Koeman acknowledged that his side did not play well, but also paid tribute to Chelsea's performance as Antonio Conte continued his 100% record when playing a 3-4-3 formation.

"They played very well, I expected more from my team. It was a big difference in every aspect," he told BT Sport.

"It was not about the system, the difference was the mentality to win the game. With five defenders we control it, after 2-0 it was over. You have to accept sometimes in life your opponent is by far the better team.

"It is a difficult system to play against, the big difference with Chelsea is they have the winning mentality and quality on the ball. They were far too strong for Everton. The difference was too big between Chelsea and Everton, the one positive thing is it is only three points."

The defeat saw Everton ship five goals in a Premier League game for the first time since August 2014, when they let in six against the same opponents.
