Phil Jagielka praises David Moyes for the impact he has had on his football career.

Everton captain Phil Jagielka has heaped praise on former manager David Moyes for the impact he has had on his footballing career.

Moyes, who will begin next season as the new Manchester United boss, signed the centre-back from Sheffield United in 2007 where he broke into the team at Bramall Lane under Neil Warnock.

The 30-year-old, who has gone on to become an England international since joining the Toffees, believes that Moyes has helped him develop into a better player.

"I have had two managers in my career," Jagielka said. "Neil Warnock gave me a chance to play in the game, David Moyes gave me a chance to play at a higher level, coached me to a better level and helped my game progress.

"Over the last six years he has taken me from possibly being a Premier League defender to playing some games for England. But I would also like to think I put myself on the line for him as well.

"That is why we did so well as a club during the time he was there. I have grown up. I understand the role of playing for England and I am more than confident in my own ability."

Jagielka also recently denied that he would be leaving Goodison Park this summer.
