Everton's Ramiro Funes Mori reveals he was close to joining Chelsea

Funes Mori reveals scuppered Chelsea move

Everton defender Ramiro Funes Mori has revealed that he came close to signing for Chelsea a few years ago.

The Argentine sealed a transfer to Goodison Park from River Plate on the final day of the summer window on September 1.

However, the 24-year-old could have already been a Chelsea player by now as he once had a trial with the West London outfit, but passport issues resulted in the move breaking down.

"It can be said that it's my second spell at England - I did a trial for Chelsea a few years ago alongside with my twin brother," The Express quotes Funes Mori as saying.

"We stayed at Chelsea for two weeks but had to leave because we didn't have a European passport. Well, I still don't have a European passport but Everton truly wanted me. So now I hope to be ready and get used to playing in the Premier League as soon as possible."

The defender made his Everton debut in last weekend's 3-1 victory over Chelsea.
