Good morning! Everton boss Roberto Martinez will be speaking to the media in around 15 minutes as he prepares his side for a trip to Southampton on Saturday afternoon. After dropping points against Watford last time out, he'll be hoping that his side can secure their first win of the new season this weekend.

Saturday's 2-2 draw has led to increased speculation that Everton will need to add to their squad before the end of a transfer window. So far this summer, they've signed Tom Cleverley, Gerard Deulofeu and David Henen, spending just £4.4m.

A string of injuries haven't helped Everton's preparations for the new season, with Deulofeu, Mohamed Besic and Kevin Mirallas all carrying knocks, while Leighton Baines is out after aggravating an ankle injury in pre-season. Hopefully the manager will give us an update on his squad's fitness this morning.

Don't forget, we'll be bringing you live coverage from this match, as well as team news, match analysis, player ratings and loads more on Saturday lunchtime, so make sure you're with us again then.

One player Martinez is likely to be asked about is Barnsley defender Mason Holgate, who has been linked with the Toffees. Everton previously signed John Stones from the Tykes' academy, and this 18-year-old had 22 appearances for the League One side last season, earning him comparisons to the England international.

Incidentally, Southampton also began their new season with a 2-2 draw against Newcastle United. The Saints will be boosted this weekend though by the return of manager Ronald Koeman, who wasn't in the dugout last weekend after tearing his Achilles in a training session. He's since undergone surgery and returned to work.

Well, as Martinez seems to be running a couple of minutes late this morning, why not check out all the latest transfer rumours surrounding Everton, including more on the potential signing of Holgate as John Stones's proposed move to Chelsea.

Right then, Martinez has arrived ready to speak to the media, so let's see what he has to say this morning...

Martinez starts by looking back at last week's result, explaining: "Every time you go into a home game you want to win, but the reaction in the second half, and you look elsewhere in the league and see how hard it is to get results. I think that sort of performance and reaction will allow us to be where we want to be this season. I think looking back there were many positives"

Everton have struggled against Southampton recently, and the manager admits: "Historically it is a very tough place for us, it's a challenge, we want to embrace that. They are playing in Europe, and have found very good balance in the way they play. It's going to be a very difficult place for us to go as Everton. We need to make sure we change the stats that are against us."

Attention turns to the squad's fitness, with Martinez confirming: "Kevin Mirallas has reacted very well and I expect him to train today. We are positive for the weekend. Besic and Deulofeu trained on Tuesday, and McGeady is ready to join the group. We'll find out a bit more about Leighton today. He'll be missed on the pitch but his influence is important around the club."

On the tackle the resulted in Mirallas's injury, Martinez adds: "It was a shocking challenge. He could have ended up with a broken leg."

Martinez faces the inevitable question about John Stones's future at the club, and responds: "He's a huge player for us. We are looking forward to seeing the best of him over the next few seasons, not just the next few weeks. The player is not for sale and that's the end of it."

On the prospect of players coming in, Martinez insists: "It must be for the rest of the season, not the next few weeks. We are working hard and when we have got something to announce our fans will be the first to know."

Sticking with potential signing, Martinez adds: "We are very confident we are not going to be short in any department when the window closes. I'm very confident in finding a very good outcome when the window closes."

Arouna Kone was on the scoresheet last week after missing most of last season with a knee injury. He praises the striker: "Last week with Arouna, for the first time since he joined Everton, you saw the player that he can be. It's a new start for him."

Martinez is asked how much the club are missing Leighton Baines, and the Spaniard admits: "Leighton was looking really sharp in pre-season, he's one of the best left-backs in Europe."

Martinez reiterates that Everton are not looking to sell any of their players: "On the outside it has become a volatile environment, but our situation is very clear; we will embrace our youngsters but we are not a selling club."

Sticking with the transfer window, Martinez is asked about Mason Holgate, and he confirms that a deal could be imminent: "We are hoping, yes. He is 18 and already played 20 games in the league. We have agreed terms with Barnsley and he will be adding to the golden generations at our football club. [Stones and Holgate] are very, very different. In terms of personality they are very similar. That is the only comparison you can have."

And on that note, Martinez brings his press conference to an end. As expected there were a lot of questions about the transfer window, more than this weekend's match itself, but it looks like the club could have a new player available by Saturday if they can push the deal for Holgate through.

So, join us again on Saturday to see if Everton can make amends for last weekend's draw. Until then, thanks for joining me this morning. Goodbye.
