Aaron Lennon: 'Early goals settled it for Everton'

Lennon: 'Early goals settled it for us'

Everton winger Aaron Lennon has said that his side's two early goals made things a lot easier during their FA Cup clash with Carlisle United this afternoon.

The Toffees bounced back from their midweek League Cup exit with a comfortable 3-0 victory at Brunton Park, with two of those goals coming in the opening 15 minutes.

Lennon was involved in both of them, setting up the first inside two minutes before scoring the second himself, and he believes that it was important to get off to such a quick start.

"We came out fast, we knew we had to or it could have been a difficult tie. We got the two early goals and that settled it for us. We did what we needed to do," he told BT Sport.

"We knew we had to get back into winning ways and fast. We had to get over Wednesday's disappointment and we are in the draw later today."

Everton have now reached the fifth round of the FA Cup in five of the last six seasons.
