Espanyol concede an injury-time equaliser at home to Sevilla, denying Javier Aguirre a first victory in charge of the La Liga strugglers.

Javier Aguirre came close to a perfect start as Espanyol manager but was denied victory by an injury-time equaliser from Alvaro Negredo.

The home side started the evening bottom of the table but took the lead after 13 minutes when Verdu coolly converted from the spot after being fouled in the penalty area.

Sevilla responded well and were awarded a penalty of their own just 10 minutes later when Coke was brought down by Christian Stuani.

Ivan Rakitic made no mistake to equalise, but the visitors were reduced to 10 men before the break when Jose Antonio Reyes was dismissed for a second booking.

Espanyol took full advantage and were back ahead on the hour when substitute Simao made no mistake with a header from close range.

Aguirre was seconds from a perfect start to life in Barcelona but his side failed to keep out Negredo in stoppage time.

The Spanish international striker met a pinpoint cross from Jesus Navas at the back post to rescue a point for his side and keep Espanyol bottom of La Liga.
