Seaman: 'Joe Hart important for England'
Former England goalkeeper David Seaman suggests that Joe Hart should be Gareth Southgate's number one at the 2018 World Cup.

Former England goalkeeper David Seaman has suggested that Joe Hart should be Gareth Southgate's number one stopper during the 2018 World Cup.

Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford is expected to start Friday's international friendly with the Netherlands, leaving Hart, Nick Pope and Jack Butland in reserve.

Hart has struggled for Premier League football on loan at West Ham United this season, but Seaman - who earned 75 caps for the Three Lions - has said that the 30-year-old should definitely be on the plane to Russia.

"For me, Joe has got everything a goalkeeper needs," Seaman told talkSPORT. "He's got all that experience, and you don't just disregard that; he's got 75 caps and played in the Champions League.

"The problem Joe's got is he's not playing. I know he played the last game for West Ham, but he needs to play for the rest of the season. I think Joe will definitely be in the three [for the World Cup]; he's a quality goalkeeper and you don't disregard all that experience he's got.

"What if one of the young guys goes in and has a nightmare? You need experience to fall back on, but at the moment, I don't think Jack or Jordan are up to the standard of Joe yet."

Hart has conceded 33 goals in 15 Premier League matches this season.
