Report: England declined chance to interview Guardiola

The Football Association declined an opportunity to speak to Pep Guardiola about the England job, a report has claimed.

Roy Hodgson was given the job last year and has led England to the top of their 2014 World Cup qualifying group.

Despite Guardiola's success at Barcelona, the FA decided to select an English manager after Fabio Capello's resignation.

However, Guardiola was interested in the job and contacted the FA through a third party, according to the Daily Mail.

The FA then sent messages back stating that they wanted a new manager in charge for Euro 2012.

There was no further contact after that, although the report claims that despite being approached by a number of managers, only English bosses were considered by the FA.

Guardiola is now manager at Bayern Munich.
