England's hooligans required to surrender passports ahead of World Cup

Hooligan passports to be surrendered

Police have ordered over 1,400 England football 'hooligans' to hand in their passports in an attempt to stop them travelling to the World Cup in Brazil.

The alleged hooligans have until Tuesday to surrender their passports, with the tournament beginning on June 12.

The initiative relates to people convicted of football-related violence that have been given a banning order. The police have insisted that anyone keeping their passport in breach of the order could face court action.

Despite the order, police have stated that there had been "very limited trouble" involving England fans at recent international tournaments.
