Hodgson: 'Rooney looking good'

England manager Roy Hodgson has claimed that Wayne Rooney is "looking very good" ahead of this summer's World Cup.

Rooney and his international teammates are currently in Portugal for a pre-tournament training camp.

Despite the striker missing Manchester United's final three games of the season with a groin injury, Hodgson is happy with what he has seen so far from the 28-year-old.

"He is looking very good, very good indeed," Hodgson told reporters. "We try and individualise it a bit so in the session I did today I left a few senior players out but it is only a precaution because we are trying to make certain we do not put too much physical pressure on the players too early.

"It has been a very good few days. There is a long way to go but at least we have got off to a good start."

England play the first of three warm-up matches for the World Cup on May 30, when they welcome Peru to Wembley Stadium.
