Roy Hodgson: 'Pressure now on Andros Townsend'

Hodgson: 'Pressure now on Townsend'

England manager Roy Hodgson feels that Andros Townsend will now have to deal with the pressure of being a regular international footballer.

The Tottenham Hotspur winger turned in a fine performance as the Three Lions qualified for the World Cup with a 2-0 win against Poland at Wembley on Tuesday evening.

The showing came just days after the Spurs youngster scored his first international goal in the 4-1 win over Montenegro last Friday, and Hodgson now thinks that Townsend will have additional pressure on his shoulders.

"He'll have the pressure on him now, after playing like he has in front of 90,000 people," Hodgson told ITV Sport.

"If he has a bad game, people will be asking 'what's happened to Andros Townsend?' because when you play like he has people will be expecting it every week.

"But he's a level headed young man and I think he will deal with that."

The draw for the World Cup will take place in Brazil on December 6.
