Roy Hodgson: 'England weren't adventurous'

Hodgson: 'England weren't adventurous'

England manager Roy Hodgson has admitted that his side were not particularly adventurous during their draw in Ukraine.

The Three Lions endured an uninspiring 0-0 stalemate in Kiev on Tuesday that keeps them in pole position for World Cup qualification.

Despite conceding that his side did not really push for a winning goal, Hodgson believes that England got their tactics correct for the match.

"I don't think we were that adventurous, but it was for them to be adventurous, not us," Hodgson said in his press conference.

"We had to make sure we controlled them and in the first half particularly there were a few interesting situations in the final third, but as I said perhaps we didn't have the quality to make that count.

"On the other hand if we had thrown caution to the wind and tried all-out for the winner and we came out with a 0-1 which would have virtually ended our chances of finishing top of the group, I don't think we would have got any thanks for that."
