Tony Adams: 'John Terry, Ashley Cole should be in England's World Cup squad'

Former England captain Tony Adams believes that John Terry and Ashley Cole should be going to the World Cup this summer.

Former England captain Tony Adams has claimed that Chelsea duo John Terry and Ashley Cole should be going to the World Cup.

Cole was left out of manager Roy Hodgson's 23-man squad when it was announced on Monday, while Terry retired from international football in 2012 after falling out with the Football Association.

With the pair not travelling to Brazil this summer, Adams believes that England's remaining group of defenders are not good enough to help the team win the tournament.

"We've got a good keeper in Joe Hart but I don't understand why John Terry's not there and Ashley Cole's omission is a mistake," he is quoted as saying by Sky Sports News.

"But if you're going to win it I don't see this back four doing it. They've not got the quality to win it."

Adams won 66 caps for England during an international career that lasted from 1987 to 2000.
