Seven England fans arrested in Munich ahead of Germany clash

Seven England fans arrested in Munich ahead of Germany clash

A total of seven England fans were arrested in Munich on Monday evening ahead of the Three Lions' UEFA Nations League encounter with Germany.

Approximately 4,000 England fans have made the journey to Germany ahead of Wednesday's game in League A Group 3 - the Three Lions' first Munich clash for 21 years.

The FA and security forces were initially concerned about the prospect of fan disorder ahead of Wednesday's game, and seven arrests have now been made for various offences.

Three fans were arrested for making a Nazi salute, with a further two for inciting police, one for use of a pyrotechnic in a hotel room and one for public urination.

Fears are growing over the UK and Ireland's bid to host Euro 2028 following the arrests, which follows concerning scenes of crowd trouble from the Euro 2020 final against Italy.

Gareth Southgate's side will welcome the European champions to Wembley Stadium for Saturday's game without fans as punishment for the disorder, while various pitch invasions and incidents in such events have also tarnished the English game in recent weeks.

England are aiming to recover from a 1-0 defeat to Hungary in Wednesday's game, while Hansi Flick's side were held to a 1-1 draw by a much-changed Italy side on the opening matchday.
