Agent: 'Nick Pope will not be fazed by England pressure'

Nick Pope's agent has exclusively told Sports Mole that the Burnley goalkeeper will not be fazed if he is handed the opportunity to become England's number one.

Pope, who enjoyed an excellent 2019-20 Premier League season for the Clarets, could be given the nod between the sticks when England face Iceland in the UEFA Nations League on Saturday night.

Speaking to Sports Mole on Friday afternoon, David Lee, who represents the 28-year-old, has insisted that his client can handle the pressure of such a high-profile position.

"It will just be a normal game for him, he won't put any extra pressure on himself, you know what it's like playing for England, you let one through your hands and it's on the back pages of every newspaper," said Lee.

"He doesn't make many mistakes, obviously [Jordan] Pickford is number one at the moment and you've got [Dean] Henderson just behind so Nick will be aware of that.

"He's not one to just focus on trying to get Pickford out the team, he'll also be looking at the top young goalkeepers around who are also pushing him as well. He will be pushing himself and hopefully he gets a chance soon."

Pope, who kept 15 Premier League clean sheets last term, made his England debut against Costa Rica in June 2018 before earning his second cap against Kosovo in November 2019.
