Southgate 'to decide fate of partying stars'

Incoming England boss Gareth Southgate will reportedly have the final say over whether Wayne Rooney, Jordan Henderson and Adam Lallana need to be censured following their conduct during a night off.

The 46-year-old is expected to be appointed on a full-time basis at some point next week following an unbeaten four-game interim spell in charge of the Three Lions.

According to The Times, Southgate's first task will be to decide the fate of Rooney, who was pictured staying up drinking until the early hours of the morning the day after England's 3-0 win over Scotland.

Rooney remained in the team's hotel where he joined wedding guests, while teammates Lallana and Henderson visited a strip club in Bournemouth less than 48 hours before the friendly with Spain at Wembley Stadium.

All three players are likely to escape any severe punishment, but it is claimed that Southgate will be asked to offer his input and ultimately decide whether the practice of giving players time off should continue.

England return to action next March with a friendly against Germany at Borussia Dortmund's Westfalenstadion.
