Gary Lineker defends England criticism

Lineker defends England criticism

Former England striker Gary Lineker has defended his criticism of the national team for their performance in Tuesday's 0-0 draw with Ukraine.

The 52-year-old tweeted during the goalless World Cup qualifier that the players were passing the ball "like they've never been introduced to each other".

While the Match of the Day presenter stands by his comments, Lineker also insists that he is fully supportive of manager Roy Hodgson.

He tweeted: "My only criticism, but it's a crucial one, was the inability to pass the ball accurately. Effort, defence, tactics, spirit, all sound. Decent result from a team missing a few key players.

"Finally, I'd like to make it clear that I'm fully supportive of Roy and think he's doing a good job. Onwards.."

England play their penultimate match of the campaign on October 11 when they host Montenegro at Wembley.
