Jagielka withdraws from England squad

Everton defender Phil Jagielka has pulled out of the England squad due to a thigh injury.

The centre-back's withdrawal comes one day before the Three Lions' World Cup qualifier against Malta.

Jagielka will also miss the clash against Slovenia, but the Football Association has announced that interim manager Gareth Southgate will not call up a replacement "at this time".

Everton's official Twitter page confirmed: "The thigh injury isn't thought to be too serious and Jags will return to Everton to be assessed."

Jagielka's withdrawal is the third from the England camp following Raheem Sterling and Glen Johnson, both of whom pulled out with injuries.

Meanwhile, Gary Cahill missed Friday morning's training session with a sore throat.
