Arsenal's Jack Wilshere delighted with first England goals

Wilshere happy with first England goals

Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere has said that his first England goals were "a long time coming" after breaking his international duck this evening.

Wilshere scored a pair of rockets from distance to turn the Euro 2016 qualifier against Slovenia on its head after the visitors had fallen behind in Ljubljana.

Slovenia drew level in the final 10 minutes, but England managed to preserve their 100% record in qualifying thanks to Wayne Rooney's late winner.

Speaking to ITV Sport after the match, Wilshere, who had gone 27 games for England without a goal, said: "It's obviously nice to get my first goals for England, they have been a long time coming.

"I probably wouldn't have had a shot for the second one if I hadn't already scored, but after I'd scored one I had more confidence.

"I have said that I need to score more goals, it is something I need to add to my game. (Frank) Lampard, (Steven) Gerrard and (Paul) Scholes have done that for England."

Wilshere's brace was just the second time he has scored more than once in a competitive game - the other was against Marseille in the Champions League on November 26, 2013.
