Greg Dyke: 'New deal for Roy Hodgson dependent on performance at Euro 2016'

Football Association chairman Greg Dyke suggests that Roy Hodgson must reach the quarter-finals of Euro 2016 in order to secure a new contract.

Football Association chairman Greg Dyke has suggested that a new contract for Roy Hodgson is dependent on England's performance at Euro 2016.

As it stands, Hodgson's deal expires after the conclusion of the tournament in France but he has previously expressed his desire to remain in charge of the Three Lions.

However, Dyke has suggested that England must reach at least the quarter-finals if positive discussions are to be held over Hodgson leading the national team through the qualification campaign for the 2018 World Cup.

Dyke told BBC's Sportsweek: "Clearly if you get to semi-finals, that's success.

"If we've played well and unfortunately lost against a good team or on penalties [in the quarter-finals] then that's a discussion that will go on."

England will guarantee their place in the knockout stages of Euro 2016 if they secure a win or draw against Slovakia on Monday night.
