English FA fined £4,000 by UEFA

The English Football Association have been fined £4,000 by UEFA after the country's fans attempted to invade the pitch during Friday's Euro 2012 win over Sweden.

European football's governing body confirmed on Sunday afternoon that they had begun disciplinary proceedings against the FA.

The charge relates to the actions of England supporters in the wake of Danny Welbeck's winning goal. It has been reported that a number of fans attempted to jump the advertising hoardings and get onto the field of play.

An appeal to the verdict may be lodged, but only if it is made within 24 hours of the decision.
