England players to donate bonuses to charity

The England squad have agreed to donate their Euro 2012 match bonuses to charity, an FA spokesman has confirmed.

The money, which could potentially total around £15,000 per player, will go towards the team's charity fund, The England Footballers Foundation, along with Cancer Research, Help for Heroes and the Outreach Programme.

In fact, the Three Lions stars will not pocket a single penny unless they can navigate their way out of the group stages.

An FA spokesman said: "The bonus scheme is heavily weighted towards the end of the tournament.

"The players are all on board with the structure we have settled on."

The squad will benefit by around £100,000 each should they triumph in Eastern Europe this summer.
