Kenny McLean gives Aberdeen winning start

Aberdeen have made a winning start to their Scottish Premier League campaign courtesy of a 1-0 victory over Dundee United this afternoon.

Chris Erskine had the first opening of the match for the hosts, but his stinging drive was parried by Danny Ward.

The visitors then created a chance of their own when Cameron Smith burst through the midfield and fired in a strike that was saved at the second attempt by Luis Zwick.

As the game edged towards half time, Mario Bilate came close to giving Dundee the lead, but he was unable to turn his close-range strike past Ward.

The hosts threatened again at the start of the second half when Mark Durnan diverted Blair Spittal's free kick goalwards and forced the keeper to turn the ball wide of the post.

Aberdeen then felt as though they should have found the net after Andrew Considine's shot was cleared off the line by Ryan McGowan.

With eight minutes of the game left to play, the Dons finally made the breakthrough when Kenny McLean connected with David Goodwillie's cross to head an effort past Zwick.

It would prove to be the only goal as Aberdeen saw out the final minutes with relative ease to pick up all three points in their opening league match of the season.
