Blackpool earn late win at Doncaster Rovers

Late goals from Gary Mackenzie and Thomas Ince get Blackpool off to a flying start in the Championship at Doncaster Rovers.

Blackpool have made a great start to their Championship campaign with a 3-1 win against newly-promoted Doncaster Rovers, thanks to two late goals.

New signing Steven Davies put the visitors in front on 17 minutes after Ross Turnbull made a double save but provided a tap-in for the striker, as Blackpool enjoyed plenty of early possession at the Keepmoat Stadium.

However, Paul Dickov's side finished the first half the stronger with David Cotterill posing problems on the left wing, but Rovers were profligate in front of goal as they failed to test the Seasiders goalkeeper Matt Gilks.

The hosts started the second half well and managed to level through a Rob Jones header as Paul Ince's men were put under sustained pressure.

However, as Blackpool began to settle, Thomas Ince became more of a threat in attack and nearly scored after latching onto a loose defensive pass only to drag the shot wide.

With minutes remaining, his corner found Gary Mackenzie, who headed home to the delight of the travelling supporters.

As the hosts went desperately in search of a late equaliser, Turnbull was caught high up the pitch from a corner and Ince was able to roll the ball into an empty net from 40 yards to secure the three points.
