Paul Dickov prepared to give youth a chance

Doncaster boss Paul Dickov says that he will continue to give youngsters a chance after starting two inexperienced teenagers in the 0-0 draw with Millwall.

Paul Dickov has revealed that youngsters will continue to get a chance at Doncaster Rovers after he handed starts to two teenagers in the 0-0 draw with Millwall.

Despite more experienced and established forward options such as Federico Macheda and Theo Robinson being available, 19-year-old Alex Peterson was handed his full Championship debut in the clash at the Keepmoat Stadium.

Liam Wakefield, also 19 and making only his third professional league appearance, was another youth-team graduate included from the beginning in central defence, and Dickov was particularly complimentary of his display, which helped Donny keep their first clean sheet in 10 matches.

"If the kids are working hard I'll give them a chance. Liam Wakefield was excellent today," Dickov told the club's official website.

"We are disappointed to not get the three point but it's a clean sheet to build on."

Doncaster travel to promotion contenders Queens Park Rangers on New Year's Day.
