Nigel Clough wants Chris Martin stay

Derby County boss Nigel Clough has revealed that he wants to bring Norwich City striker Chris Martin back to the club.

The 24-year-old's one-month spell with the Rams ended at the weekend, but Clough has claimed that they are in talks to bring the defender back to Pride Park.

"We are trying to keep Chris. We have been trying in the past week to sort something out and, hopefully, we are not too far away," Clough told reporters at a press conference.

"I think he wants to stay and that is the main thing. He has done well for us. He is a calming influence. He gets hold of the ball, keeps it simple and retains possession."

Martin's Norwich deal expires at the end of the season.
