Chris Martin equaliser gives Derby County a draw against Charlton Athletic

Chris Martin scores the equaliser as Derby County earn a 1-1 draw at home to Charlton Athletic.

Derby County have earned a 1-1 draw at home to Charlton Athletic this afternoon.

Charlton midfielder Johann Berg Gudmundsson had the game's first meaningful effort on goal as he cut inside from the wing and shot from 20 yards, but keeper Scott Carson was equal to it.

Derby offered little in the opening 20 minutes, but Chris Martin was presented with a decent chance as Tom Ince's low cross was blasted wide by the striker.

After the break, Jeff Hendrick went close with a deflected shot for the home side before George Thorne blasted wide.

However, Charlton took the lead minutes later when Tony Watt found the top corner with a shot from 20 yards.

Hendrick went close again for Derby as his shot towards goal was cleared off the line by Charlton's Patrick Bauer, while Gudmundsson's deflected shot dropped inches wide up the other end.

Charlton went close to doubling their lead again as Alou Diarra's header was cleared off the line by Thorne, before Derby equalised. Martin collected the ball on the edge of the box from Jamie Hanson, and turned neatly before firing it low into the bottom corner.

New Charlton striker Simon Makienok almost regained the lead for his side, but his header looped onto the roof of the net, while Ince forced Nick Pope into a flying save with a free kick.

Gumundsson went close again 10 minutes from time as he let fly from 25 yards, but his shot missed the post by inches, before Martin's header was saved by Pope in stoppage time.
