Derby County edge past Northampton Town

Derby County narrowly overcame League Two side Northampton Town in their pre-season friendly this afternoon.

The Championship club took the lead just after the half-hour mark, when Andi Weimann teed up Johnny Russell.

After the break, the hosts failed to equalise from the spot, with Marc Richards missing the penalty after he was brought down by Richard Keogh.

Tom Ince came close with a couple of chances as the visitors looked to extend their lead.

Northampton pressed late on as they searched for a leveller, but Derby held on to claim a narrow win at Sixfields Stadium.
