Half-Time Report: Derby County ahead at the break

Derby ahead at the break

Derby County have taken a 2-0 lead into half time in their Championship match against Barnsley at the iPro Stadium this afternoon.

The home side created a couple of half-chances in the opening 10 minutes, but Craig Bryson sent a cross into the side netting, before Luke Steele punched the ball away from a Derby corner.

The visitors appealed for a penalty when Chris O'Grady fell following a challenge from Richard Keogh, but the referee was not interested.

Derby continued to look the more likely to open the scoring in the opening 20 minutes as Bryson tried to set up Chris Martin, but he could only head over, while Johnny Russell sent an effort wide from close range.

After a scrappy spell, the home side took the lead 10 minutes before half time through a long-range Jeff Hendrick strike into the bottom corner.

Russell was able to double their lead just before the break with another effort from distance which looped into the back of the net, although Bryson may try to claim it as it appeared to take a deflection from the midfielder.
