Preview: Dallas vs. Minnesota United - prediction, team news, lineups

Sports Mole previews Sunday's Major League Soccer clash between Dallas and Minnesota United, including predictions, team news and possible lineups.

Dallas will be looking to pick up a seventh consecutive home victory and move top of the Western Conference table when they play host to Minnesota United at the Toyota Stadium on Sunday.

The Loons, on the other hand, have failed to taste victory in each of their last four outings since the start of May and will head into the weekend seeking to end this dry spell.

Dallas continue to struggle for results on the road as they fell to a 2-1 defeat at the hands of Vancouver Whitecaps when the sides squared off at the BC Place Stadium on Thursday.

The Whitecaps put on a superb second-half display as Brian White's 71st-minute strike canceled out Paul Arriola's first-half opener before Lucas Cavallini calmly converted from 12 yards in the 92nd minute to complete the comeback.

Dallas are now winless in all but one of their seven away games in all competitions this season — picking up three draws and losing three — with a 3-1 victory at LA Galaxy on May 15 being the only exception.

However, Nico Estevez's side now return to home turf where they have been simply outstanding so far, picking up one draw and winning each of their last seven outings since the start of the season.

Dallas have now won six, drawn four and lost two of their 12 games so far to collect 22 points and sit third in the Western Conference standings, one point off first-placed Austin FC.

Minnesota United, on the other hand, failed to find their feet in the MLS as they played out a 1-1 draw with LA Galaxy when the sides squared off last Thursday.

In a cagey affair at the Allianz Field Stadium, Sacha Kljestan and Robin Lod found the target for either side in the final seven minutes of the game to force a share of the spoils.

The Loons have now failed to win any of their last four league outings, picking up one point from a possible 12 since claiming successive wins over Colorado Rapids and Chicago Fire back in April.

However, next up for Minnesota United is an opposing side who they are unbeaten against in each of the last five meetings between the teams, picking up three wins and two draws since a 3-1 loss back in August 2020.

With 15 points from 12 games, Adrian Heath's side are currently ninth in the Conference standings, level on points with Houston Dynamo, Colorado Rapids and Portland Timbers respectively.

Team News

Dallas head into the weekend with a clean bill of health and no suspension concerns, giving Estevez the luxury of a full-strength squad at his disposal once again.

With his assist in Thursday's game against the Whitecaps, Jesus Ferreira now boasts 11 goal involvements in 12 league appearances so far, and the 21-year-old forward will certainly be one to keep an eye out for.

Meanwhile, Minnesota United will take to the pitch without 32-year-old defender Romain Metanire, who picked up a thigh injury in April's game against Austin FC.

He is joined on the Loons' injury table by midfielder Hassani Dotson, who is set to sit out his seventh consecutive game after sustaining an ACL injury back in April.

The American duo of Eric Dick and Patrick Weah are yet to feature for Minnesota United this season as they both continue their lengthy spells on the sidelines.

Dallas possible starting lineup:
Maurer; Twumasi, Hedges, Burgess, Farfan; Pomykal, Quignon, Ntsabeleng; Arriola, Ferreira, Obrian

Minnesota United possible starting lineup:
Clair; Fisher, Boxall, Dibassy, Lawrence; Arriaga, Trapp; Danladi, Reynoso, Hlongwane; Hunou
