Jason Puncheon backs Crystal Palace to better last season's points tally

Crystal Palace midfielder Jason Puncheon backs his side to match their 48-point total from last season, which they are currently 11 points shy of with six games left.

Crystal Palace midfielder Jason Puncheon has backed his side to better their points tally from last season.

The Eagles finally picked up their first win of 2016 yesterday as Puncheon scored the only goal of the game to end his side's 14-match winless streak at the expense of Norwich City.

Palace remain 11 points adrift of last season's 48-point total, which was enough to see them finish 10th, but Puncheon believes that his side can make that up over the final six games of the campaign.

"I still believe in this team. We've still got a chance - although people might not believe it - to better what we did last season," he told the club's official website.

"It was good to score and the main thing for us was to get the three points and stop that rot.

"I could sense that we would get a goal, whether it would be a little scrappy goal or something. We showed great character and belief."

Puncheon's goal at Selhurst Park was his first of the season.
