Cameron Jerome gave Crystal Palace the lead when he headed in Jason Puncheon's cross.
Barry Bannan then worked himself a good shooting chance by cutting inside from the right, but his long-range effort sailed wide of the goal.
Palace dominated the half but could not add to their lead and the game stayed 1-0 going into the break.
