Scott Shearer heading for Crewe Alexandra exit

Crewe Alexandra assistant coach Neil Baker admits that goalkeeper Scott Shearer could be forced to leave the club this summer if he wants more first-team football.

Crewe Alexandra assistant coach Neil Baker has revealed that goalkeeper Scott Shearer could leave the club this summer.

The 34-year-old moved to Gresty Road at the start of the season, but limited first-team action saw him loaned out to Burton Albion in January.

Baker now admits that Shearer could be forced to join another club if he wants regular football.

"Scott has spoken to the manager and made it known that he wants to carry on playing and would rather do that than the coaching side of things," he told the club's official website.

"He didn't play a great deal of football for us nor Burton, so [the manager] has told him to go out and see what is available for him. If something materialises for him then we have a decision to make. We will have to bring in another goalkeeper either an experienced one or a younger one and employ a goalkeeping coach."

Crewe finished the season in 20th place in the League One table, two points above the relegation zone.
